Be sure to attach your resume as word processing document to your E-mail message. It is not necessary to submit multiple resumes, one resume will be utilized by calling the hiring agency.

*UPDATING YOUR RESUME*

You should submit an updated resume and/or cover sheet if: 1) pertinent information on your resume and/or cover sheet changes (i.e. name, address, phone number, counties of interest, job change, degree, etc.), 2) your resume was submitted one year ago or more. Submit your updated resume and/or cover sheet to the Department of Human Resource Management by mail, in person, or E-mail to the addresses listed in the* Submitting Your Resume* section. Be sure to include place a note with your updated resume and/or cover sheet indicating it is an update.

SELF-NOMINATING PROCESS

To nominate yourself to be considered for a specific opening, please do one of the following: 1) call the assigned recruiter and request that your resume be reviewed for that opening or 2) send a courtesy copy of your resume to the assigned recruiter with a cover letter requesting your resume be considered for that position or 3) follow the instructions, if any, in the advertisement or job announcement regarding who to contact and how contact should be made. NOTE: Nominating yourself for an opening does not guarantee that you will receive an interview. It does mean your resume will be reviewed to determine if you should receive further consideration.

*STATE EMPLOYEE PREFERENCE*

Preference may be given to current Career Service employees. Current career service employees may not be required to undergo testing.

*SOURCE CODES*

Source codes are used to determine the effectiveness of our recruitment methods and advertising. Job seekers will be considered for all positions which they qualify whether or not a specific source code is listed on their cover sheet. It is not necessary to submit additional resumes and/or cover sheets for source codes. Your original resume will be considered for all position for which you qualify with or without a source code.

*DRUG TESTING*

Job seekers will be required to undergo drug testing as a condition of employment for safety sensitive positions. Employees may be required to undergo drug testing at any time based on reasonable suspicion.

*DEFINITION: TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*

For each position advertised, where an agency utilizes a rating of training and experience, it will be advertised in the announcement. All related training and experience will then be applied toward job requirements listed. Training includes college and technical study. Training and experience will be considered separately in ratings and cannot substitute for one another on determining the rating. After job requirements are met, a maximum of 10 years of experience and 5 years of training will be considered in ratings, unless stated otherwise in the individual job announcement. Unless otherwise stated in the announcement, degrees will be evaluated as follows: bachelors degree = four years, masters degree = five years, doctorate = seven years.

*VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE*

Related, documented volunteer experience shall be applied toward listed job requirements on a per hour basis. Volunteer experience shall not substitute for required licensure, POST certification, or other criteria for which there is no substitution in the job requirements on the official job standard or class specification. Court ordered community service experience will not be considered volunteer work for purposes of meeting job requirements. Agencies may require written verification of volunteer experience.

*LICENSING INFORMATION*

All questions regarding licensure for specific positions must be directed to: Department of Commerce, Occupational and Professional Licensing, 160 East 300 South, Fourth Floor, SLC, UT 84110, phone (801) 530-6628.

*VETERAN'S PREFERENCE*

Veteran's preference is determined by active military service for more than 180 consecutive days, or a member of a reserve component who served in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign medal has been authorized; or as an unmarried widow or widower of a veteran. Disabled Veteran's preference is determined by active military service with any percentage of disability incurred in the line of active duty, whether or not the person completed more than 180 days of active duty; or as a purple heart recipient whether or not that person completed 180 days of active duty. Upon request persons claiming veteran's preference must submit a photocopy of their honorable discharge (such as DD-214) showing the dates of service. Upon request, veteran's claiming disability must also submit a letter of verification from the Veteran's Administration dated within the last 90 days. Veterans who have received a purple heart, as evidenced on the DD-214, will receive the same preference as a disabled veteran. A retired member of the armed forces who retired below the rank of major or its equivalent are eligible for veteran's preference.

*ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: LAW ENFORCEMENT AND RELATED POSITIONS:*

1) Must be a United States Citizen; 2) Minimum age of 21 years at the time of appointment as a peace/correctional officer; 3) Fingerprinting and search of local, state and national fingerprint files to determine whether job seeker has a criminal record, final certification to be withheld until this search is completed; 4) Shall not have been convicted of a crime for which the job seeker could have been punished by imprisonment in a federal penitentiary or for which the job seeker could have been imprisoned in the penitentiary of this or another state and shall not have been convicted of an offense involving dishonesty, unlawful sexual conduct, physical violence, or the unlawful use, sale or possession of a controlled substance; 5) Be the holder of a high school diploma or furnish evidence of successful completion of an examination indicating an equivalent achievement; 6) Good moral character as determined by a background investigation; 7) Free of any physical, emotional or mental conditions which might adversely affect the performance of duty as a peace/correctional officer as determined through a selection process. Maintenance in the position requires successful completion of at least 40 hours of POST certified professional training per fiscal year, and certification as a POST Category II Peace/ Correctional Officer through the Department of Corrections. Job seekers can be removed from further consideration at any time based on the outcome of the background investigation.
