Kennecott PitThe Division of Oil, Gas and Mining regulates exploration for and development of Utah's oil, gas, coal and other mineral resources.  When exploration and developmental activities are completed, the division ensures that oil and gas wells are properly abandoned and mining sites are satisfactorily reclaimed.

New Office Schedule Coming August 4
Governor Huntsman has directed the Department of Natural Resources and other state agencies to implement a 4-day, 10-hour work week, beginning on Monday, August 4, 2008. State offices will be closed on Fridays to cut energy usage. Our new office hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Click here for more information.


2008 Performance Audit of Utah's Coal Regulatory Program  The Utah Office of the Legislative Auditor General completed “A Performance Audit of Utah’s Coal Regulatory Program” in late 2007. This audit identified process improvements for the Division’s Coal Program that, when implemented, will more effectively and efficiently serve the interests of the citizen’s of Utah. The Division is now using the audit report to make those necessary changes in procedures to better serve our customers. Click here to read Director John Baza's full response to the audit.

2008 Earth Day Awards Presented.  The Board of Oil, Gas and Mining Earth Day Awards recognize companies, organizations and individuals for going beyond what is required by regulation while developing essential natural resources. Click here to see this year's recipients.

Utah ePermit is now online! Utah Oil and gas operators can now electronically submit Applications for Permit to Drill (APDs) through the Utah Division of Oil, Gas and Mining web site. Click here to check it out!
